This delicious white Burgundy hails from Maison Champy in the village of Saint-Romain. Wedged in a valley past the far-better-known village of Meursault, this tiny plot produces Chardonnay with classic mineral notes. Maison Champy, founded in 1720, was the first wine house established in Burgundy; it was acquired in 1990 by Henri and Pierre Meurgey and Pierre Beuchet, associate directors of DIVA (a distribution company closely connected with the greatest vineyards and estates in Burgundy). This lovely white has an intense and elegant nose with mineral and citrus notes throughout. Crisp and balanced, there is a fresh and pleasant finish with lots of mineral to it. This wine is extremely food-friendly and will pair well with white-skinned fish, salads and cheeses.
